Traditions Council
About
The Traditions Council is a committee of students, faculty and staff dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the traditions of Elon University through education and awareness. We share the common goal of preserving and promoting the Spirit and traditions that make Elon such a strong community and set it apart from all others.
The Traditions Council has the responsibility of serving as:
- Keeper of Traditions – work with institutional partners (hosts/sponsors of campus traditions) to ensure the spirit of valued University-sponsored traditions is maintained
- Eye to the Future – recognize inevitable institutional evolution and strategize to proactively engage with the community and prepare for needed changes to our traditions
- Strengthen our Community and Enhance School Spirit – centered on the values of the institution, work with students and campus partners to identify and support the development of new traditions
- Education – with campus partners, ensure we are educating the community on Elon traditions and communicate the value or purpose behind them
- Support for Student Initiatives – for those traditions that are started by students organically and meet the values of the institution, identify ways the Council can best support the initiatives (recognizing that sometimes doing nothing is the best course of action)
Membership on the Traditions Council includes:
- students appointed by SGA President (1-year term)
- students selected through an application process (1-year term)
- staff related to their role on campus (Student Life, Alumni Engagement, Athletics, Chaplain’s office, Library Archivist)
- faculty members (rotating 3-year terms)
